Lana Wilkinson 5th September 2007

On Independence Day, 2005, I found myself standing next to Brother Andersen behind a hot grill flipping pancakes at the annual the Boy Scout fundraiser breakfast in the city park. I didn't know him very well, but our conversation flowed naturally. I found it easy to talk to him, and he seemed interested in what I had to tell him about my fear of starting graduate school as a 37 year old returning student. I shared with him that I was very nervous about going back to school and competing with all of the younger students in the music department, but since I had not been able to conceive a child, it seemed the logical thing to do. He encouraged me to continue my education, and told me that I would probably become pregnant while doing the graduate work. Sure enough, classes started in late August and I was pregnant with my now seventeen-month-old son by the end of September. I will never, ever forget that day, that conversation, and how good Todd's pancakes tasted. His funeral was a very uplifting experience which touched my heart and spirit countless times. I look forward to the day that I can see Brother Andersen again.
